Thelma Young
June 11, 1935 - April 27, 2022
Pastor Thelma Young went home to glory on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022, at 4:22 pm at the age of 86. She left the world peacefully, surrounded by family and in the presence of the Lord. She was born to Daniel and Mary Tucker, 15 minutes after her twin sister Velma. Thelma and Velma were the youngest of the Tuckers’ 13 children, raised in Dorcy grove, Bolivar County, Mississippi. Growing up Thelma learned to cook well and sing. Her family worked in the field to make a living. Thelma was the smallest of the twins, and everyone called her the baby. Her family all called her Rygia and Velma was called Book, the twins were tenacious little girls. Velma’s fondest memories of their growing up includes their dad spoiling them and going to church all the time. The family grew up in the service of the Lord, singing all over the South and wherever the Lord led them. Thelma Young was elevated to a Missionary in the Church and later ordained as a pastor at Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Tacoma under the Full Gospel Missionary Association by our late Bishop Roy Baldtrip. Pastor Thelma Young, a pillar in the community, touched lives everywhere she went. Pastor Thelma Young will be missed. Family that has gone on before her: Father and Mother, Daniel & Mary Tucker, three sisters, eight brothers. Husband, Edell Young, eldest son, Dr. David Lee Young, and son Clyde Young. She leaves to mourn in her passing, her twin sister, Velma Moore of Benoit, Mississippi, four sons, Edell Jr, Rickey, Jerome (Jo), and Andra Young; four daughters, Juanita Young-Harrison (Bob), Diane Simmons (Jimmy), Easter Evans, Sandra Young-McGaffie (Donnie); 38 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, Roy Mason of Tacoma, WA, Lorraine & Willie Fred Jackson of Ridgeland, MS, Dorothy & Tony Waite of Chesterfield, MO; church families and friends of The Full Gospel Pentecostal Missionary Association, fishing buddies, “adopted” children and so many more saints and friends that are too numerous to count. Pastor Thelma Young’s message was, “Get in the word and get to know the Lord for yourself. Do not depend on man, depend on the Lord!” Pastor Young was devoted to the service of the Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Our Pastor, Mommy, Sister, Grandmommy, Mommyhouse, Sugar, Woo, Friend, Auntie, walked the walk that God’s Grace is Sufficient!
