Mary Evelyn Glaude

Mary Evelyn Glaude was born on July 28, 1923, in Allegre, Kentucky to Horace and Luella Petrie. She was the oldest of 2 children. Mary earned her high school diploma while living in Kentucky. ln 1950 Mary joined the Women's Army Corps as a Clerk Typist. She received a Good Conduct medal her first year of service and reached the rank of sergeant before she left in 1958 to raise her family. After her youngest son was born, she returned to the workforce as a civilian in the Laundry Center at Fort Lewis. She was the supervisor for the dry-cleaning department before she retired. Mary married Preston Glaude Sr in 1958 and they had 3 sons. Her most important life events included raising her children and welcoming grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren's lives and meeting their children. When asked to describe Mary her children said she was happy, funny, loving, a best friend and sassy! Mary was proud of her service in the Women's Army Corps and loved telling stories about her travels to Japan. Her hobbies included reading and she had a deep love for jazz and big band. Some of her favorite artists include Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Preston in 1993. Mary is survived by her three sons; Preston Glaude Jr. of Roy, WA., Petri Glaude of Yelm, WA., and Donald Glaude of San Diego, CA. She is survived by her brother Louis of Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel, Noah, Jordan, Brandon, Adonis, Christian and Evin and 14 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life for Mary Glaude will be held on June 18th, 2O21 11 AM in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM in the memorial park.
