Lonnie Paul Dade
December 7, 1951 - August 25, 2016
After a short battle with cancer, Paul passed away on the Morning of August 25, 2016 with his wife by his side. Paul was born in Seattle, Washington on December 7, 1951. A graduate of Nathan Hale High School, Paul was the first round draft choice of the California Angels in the 1970 draft. One his way to the Major Leagues, Paul won the 1976 Pacific Coast League batting title hitting .363 with the Salt Lake Gulls. He went on to play in the bigs with the Angels, Cleveland Indians, and San Diego Padres. He also played one professional season with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan. Following baseball, Paul spent 27 years as a machine operator with Allpak Container in Renton. He made many longtime friends and was well respected by his peers and supervisors. Paul truly enjoyed the people he worked with. He spent his off time with family and watching just about every sport he could. A big N.B.A. fan, Paul also rooted for Cleveland sports teams as well as those from his hometown Seattle. If Paul wasn’t watching sports, he was probably working in the yard, cooking his spectacular recipes while enjoying music or spending time with his wife. Paul was preceded in death by both his Mother Willie and his father Lonnie. He was also preceded by five grandchildren. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Celia Dade. Two children, Lakaia Dade and Ray Dade from a previous marriage. Paul is also survived by three step children that he raised as his own, Pete Richmire, Leanna Richmire and Jennifer King as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers donation can be made to the Free the Breathe 5k Run/Walk in Tacoma’s Wright Park on September 17. This organization helps battle lung cancer.
