Diane Dawn Edison
July 4, 1938 - April 26, 2022
Diane Dawn Minkler Edison, 83, of Tacoma, died suddenly from heart failure on April 26, 2022. Born in Spokane, Washington, Diane was the only child of Don and Ruth Minkler. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle and earned her B. A. in Psychology in 1960 from Whitman College where she met and later married the love of her life, Larry Edison. The couple’s marriage lasted 57 years until he died in 2018. Diane was well known for her outgoing and personable character. While raising four boys active in swimming and academics, Diane worked as a substitute teacher in Michigan, an international exchange student coordinator in California and Washington, and the Office Manager for the Tacoma City Club while involving herself in many community projects and service organizations. She loved traveling and new adventures, including work that she and Larry did in Guatemala for Habitat for Humanity and rappelling down the side of the Hotel Murano in July of 2021 to raise money for that charity. Diane’s four sons, their spouses, and eleven grandchildren feel fortunate for her many visits. Christian and Anna will find it hard to live up to Diane’s welcoming presence at the Yellow Point Lodge Happy Hours she and Larry would throw before dinner every evening on their annual trips to Vancouver Island. Her trips to Hawaii always gave Ransom and Petra a reason to show off the islands. Jeffrey and Isabelle will miss her holidays to their house near Avignon and enjoying oysters on the half shell with her at the local antiques market there. Todd and Carrie always enjoyed taking Diane to their local farmer's market during her frequent stops to their house in Bellingham on her way to Canada. The family will hold a Memorial Service honoring the life of Diane on Sunday, June 19, 2022, 2 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 901 N J St, Tacoma, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. The service will be Live Streamed at “YouTube.com/IPCTACOMA”. Memorials may be made to Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity or to the Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
