Carrie Marie Coss
October 26, 1919 - March 6, 2022
Marie Coss was born in Willow City, North Dakota on October 26, 1919 and left this earth March 6, 2022 at the age of 102. Her parents, Theodore and Hazel Lovly, named her Carrie Marie after her favorite maternal aunt, but she always went by Marie. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Coss and is survived by her six children, MaryLou Doerr of Scottsdale, AZ, Claudia Lee Olson of Olympia, Patricia Finley of Tacoma, Penny Elder of Mercer Island, Kim Fazendin of Ridgefield, Tim Coss of University Place, WA. In addition, Marie was loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren who are spread across the country. Marie was a full-time homemaker in Tacoma, WA most of her life, volunteering at school and with her church, LeSourd Methodist. When her children were mostly grown, she began a second career as a cook for the school district. Her final position was Head Cook at Jefferson Elementary School in Tacoma. These facts do so little to describe Marie. She attended a one room school house in rural North Dakota for her short formal education, but she was an incredible lifelong learner who continued to grow by reading constantly. She chose to be content and grateful through all the ups and downs of life. She LOVED all children and they loved her. She appreciated the beauty of nature and passed that love on to her children. She loved and cared for every stray animal her children brought home. In fact, her home was a place of welcome, warmth, humor and kindness for all who entered there. She met Jesus at a tent meeting passing through her community at the age of 12 and followed him faithfully for 90 years. She was humble, modeled selfless kindness, chose joy and thankfulness, and gave grace to all. She is safely in Heaven and remembered here with much love and deep gratitude.
