Newman was born April 30th, 1934 in Etheridge Alabama to Priscilla Clark and Willie Spruill. After living in Mississippi and Ohio, she moved to Tacoma WA, to reunite with her mother and siblings. It is there where she met her Husband Roger of 42 years. Ann (as she preferred to be called) worked as a skilled nurse, she also ran a Day Care out of her home, which was the perfect compliment to her nurturing spirit. She spent several years working for a Paper supplier, where she made friends, that would later become an extension of her family. Ann was an active member and co-founder of the Mississippi Civic & Social Club. She was also active in the Mary Church Terrell , and The Ray Gibsons Caballeros Club. Ann was a faithful member of St. Johns Baptist Church for over 50 years, and most recently served as a a member of the Senior Choir where she enjoyed praising and worshiping the Lord through song. Ann was well known amongst friends for her infectious laugh, deviled eggs, and hot water cornbread. You could find her on any given night at ‘The Cab’ catching up with old friends, making new friends, playing cards, or dancing until her heart was content. She made an impression on everyone she met with her compassionate and nurturing spirit, and she will be missed tremendously by all who knew her.
