My sincerest condolences to the Layne family. SGM Layne was one of the most intelligent, intellectual, caring, straightforward individuals that I have ever met in my civilian career with DoD. J B and I met years ago, talking about the military and young adults. He retired CSM from the Army and I retired SEA from the Air Force, he was on the Clover Park School Board and I was on the Steilacoom School Board. J.B. was a Mentor to me while I was assigned to DPTMS at Ft. Lewis.
His wisdom and military bearing were always exemplary. His historical knowldge of Ft. Lewis and Reserve component operations has helped thousands of Guard and Reserve Soldiers succesfull acomplish their training requirements. Carmen and family - we are so sad to hear about the passing of JB and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you through this difficult time. Reading about JB this week has brought to mind some of the stories Carmen has told and affirmed what a special and unique person JB was.
