Sondra, I searched Skips name on the internet so that I could tell him that Dennis passed away yesterday September1, 2018 from complications from diabetes.
That is when I found his obituary here. I am sorry so see that Skip died just a little while before him.
I have such fond memories of you and Skip and Lawton Oklahoma. I hope that you remember me as well.
Dennis and I divorced after 25 years and I remarried my husband Merrill Black.

I met Frank and Sondra Schilling in March 1981 when I purchased the Cedars Apartments in Lakewood. They were managers of the Tall Firs Apartments and also the Cedars Apartments which was right next door to Tall Firs. The kids were just young then.

Frank and Sandra were excellent managers who always had a positive attitude and were devoted, caring managers. They also cared greatly for their children. Frank and Sondra were so responsible that tenants came to them for help and guidance through life’s turmoils. I will always remember one tenant going to them when there was a fire rather than calling fire department first.

Above all else was their duty and honor to God. Frank and Sandra lived their lives to that higher calling. I am 100% sure that Frank is in heaven praising God and I am thankful for Sandra’s continued friendship today. Simone, Eugennie and John have greatly benefited from the love, guidance and caring attitude of both Frank and Sandra. I too am grateful for the loving, caring attitude of Frank and Sondra and their service as apartment managers and as personal friends. God Bless You Frank and to you Sondra for all that you have done for me and for your continued friendship.

I remember meeting up with Frank and Sondra at the McChord commissary, shortly after the death of my son Jeremy. Jeremy was gay and died of aids. Frank told me that Jeremy knew the hardships he would face because of being gay and what a wonderful, valiant person he was for choosing to come to this earth in spite of it. I’m sure those aren’t his exact words, but that was the gist of it. Frank won my heart on the spot! I’ve thought about that conversation many times with great fondness. Also reading Frank’s obituary, I was struck by the fact Frank and Sondra met at Big Bear Lake. During our second Marine Corps tour in 29 Palms, Raymond and I left our two girls with friends for the weekend and went camping with two other couples at Big Bear Lake. And yes, Jeremy was conceived there! I always loved to tell Jeremy that we went to Big Bear and came back with Little Bear! Sondra, I wouldn’t be surprised if the two of them haven’t met up by now. I am no sorry for the loss that you and your family are experiencing right now, but I know you’re taking comfort in the fact that you know that you will all be reunited when the time is right.
